Chiedono di punire i responsabili dopo essersi rivolti a diversi tribunali internazionali. I deputati del Parlamento della Crimea hanno chiesto di fermare le azioni da genocidio da parte di Kiev, come quelle relative al blocco della penisola, e di punire i responsabili, si legge in una dichiarazione adottata nel corso della sessione di oggi. La Crimea e Sebastopoli sono entrate a far parte della Russia dopo un referendum condotto nel marzo nel 2014. Per la riunificazione con la Russia ha votato il 96,77% degli abitanti della Crimea e il 95,6% di Sebastopoli. Kiev e i Paesi occidentali hanno rifiutato di riconoscere la volontà popolare espressa tramite le urne ed hanno introdotto sanzioni contro la regione. Allo stesso tempo le autorità ucraine hanno chiuso completamente con la regione i collegamenti aerei, ferroviari e stradali. Inoltre hanno chiuso gli acquedotti e sospeso le forniture di cibo ed elettricità. Dalla metà di gennaio entrerà in vigore l’embargo commerciale parallelamente a misure restrittive in campo finanziario e al blocco marittimo e della rete mobile di telefonia.
I deputati ritengono che il blocco energetico e alimentare della penisola “sono un chiaro esempio di gravi violazioni dei diritti umani, azioni d’odio e genocidio che danneggiano la popolazione civile della Crimea.” Relativamente a questa situazione il Parlamento della Crimea ha chiesto ufficialmente al ministero degli Esteri della Federazione Russa assistenza politica, diplomatica e operativa per presentare denunce e mozioni all’Assemblea Generale e al Consiglio di Sicurezza delle Nazioni Unite e agli organi interparlamentari della Comunità degli Stati Indipendenti (CSI), dell’Organizzazione per la sicurezza e la cooperazione in Europa (OSCE) e dell’Assemblea parlamentare del Consiglio d’Europa (PACE). I deputati ritengono che le autorità ucraine non facciano nulla per impedire il blocco della penisola ed abbiano violato i loro obblighi per impedire atti di genocidio, come si afferma nella Convenzione sul genocidio. La questione del blocco della Crimea, secondo loro, dovrebbe essere inclusa nell’ordine del giorno della riunione di emergenza del Consiglio di Sicurezza delle Nazioni Unite e diventare una priorità del Tribunale Internazionale. Nearly 50 women in Hamburg complained to police about sexual harassment by ‘North African’ men, who called them ‘bitches’, shouted ‘Fikki, fikki’ to indicate they wanted to rape them, and ‘chased’ them ‘like cattle’ around the streets. One victim there was a 19-year-old girl called Lotta, who’d gone out to celebrate in a chic dress and high heels with friends. While they were walking from one nightclub to another, they were surrounded by men of ‘foreign origin’ who separated the girls from each other. ‘I was suddenly alone,’ said Lotta. ‘Twenty to 30 men were standing round me … every time a hand went away from my body, the next one arrived. I felt helpless.’
Like her friends, the teenager was sexually assaulted, had her hair pulled and was finally thrown to the ground after the men had finished with her.

As I have matured and my profession has afforded me the ability, I have just recently been able to travel and visit Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, Austria, and soon Netherlands). I fear for the future of Europe. As islamization overcomes them we can expect the great cultures to fall by the wayside. Gone will be their traditions: Germany can say Auf Wiedersehen to their love affair with delicious pork sausages and knuckles and see their wonderful Bavarian beer poured into the gutter; German, French, Austrian, and Italian wine regions will be plowed up; the great fashion houses of Paris and Milan might as well start sewing burqas, and the great works of art in the Academia and Uffizi of Florence, the Louvre in France, and the ruins of Rome will be destroyed. All those centuries-old churches will be razed to the ground. Don’t think so – look what happened to Palmyra at the hands of ISIS and what happened to the giant 1500 year old statues in Afghanistan at the hands of the Taliban.
Hungary’s Prime Minister was pilloried as xenophobic for recognizing the danger and trying to merely follow current EU law by registering the immigrants. It appears that only eastern European nations, Russia, and Australia have had the spine to stand up for secular society. I’m afraid that the mental derangement called political correctness will soon lead to a similar crisis in the US. All the politicians are either blind to the realities of islam (yes – I am purposely not capitalizing islam just as I do not capitalize totalitarianism, dictatorship, democracy, or any other political ideology), in denial, or have some ulterior motive to see it replace western values of freedom.
For those of you who wish to blame this mass migration on the crusades of the Middle Ages, US foreign policy, the state of Israel, Jews, global warming, or some other theory blaming western society for the ills of the Middle East, I would note that Mohammed’s barbaric and misogynistic manifesto calling for the forced conversion or killing of all nonbelievers was written in the 7th century – well before the US and other western democracies existed. Also, I would post this quote from 1899 (well before the state of Israel, well before the theory of global warming):

C’è da essere francamente riconoscenti alla bioeticista Chiara Lalli la quale, presentando un recente libro del professor Ronald Den Otter, docente di scienze politiche alla California Polytechnic State University, effettua una considerazione che dovrebbe aprire gli occhi a tutti coloro che si ostinano a ridicolizzare quanti denunciano l’attacco mortale di cui è oggetto la famiglia: «Il matrimonio (civile) è un contratto, determinato dal contesto politico e sociale, mutato e mutabile nel tempo. Non è una verità rivelata. Che ci si possa sposare tra due persone è una convenzione e non è nemmeno universale». «Deve essere – si chiede quindi la studiosa – una condizione immutabile?» (Internazionale.it, 11 gennaio). La plausibilità costituzionale del matrimonio multiplo è tesi del professor Den Otter, ma Lalli la riprende e risulta francamente non riconoscere a simili posizioni quanto meno una loro coerenza.
Infatti, anche se è inelegante citare se stessi, tutto ciò altro non è che l’inveramento di quello che io chiamato relativismo familiare, «un modo di leggere le relazioni sociali che, analogamente al relativismo etico – che pone sullo stesso piano, ritenendole equivalenti, concezioni etiche differenti, talora opposte – attribuisce il titolo di famiglia a un numero crescente e potenzialmente infinito di relazioni che hanno come unico requisito i sentimenti vissuti da coloro che le compongono; non contano più il fine dell’unione, l’identità sessuale o il numero di coloro che la rendono tale: laddove c’è sentimento c’è famiglia» (La famiglia è una sola, 2014, p.10). I fautori delle unioni civili – richiamando le quali l’articolo della Lalli non casualmente inizia – sorrideranno sostenendo l’assurdità di collegare il riconoscimento dei diritti delle coppie composte da persone dello stesso sesso col futuro “matrimonio plurale” di cui parla Den Otter. Peccato invece che non solo questo collegamento sia il coerente esito di una logica – quella del primato del sentimento quale fondamento esclusivo della famiglia -, ma sarebbe difficile per non dire impossibile, una volta messo da parte il criterio della diversità sessuale del matrimonio, ostinarsi a presidiare quello numerico. Avete ceduto sul fatto che solo un uomo ed una donna possono essere coniugi – ci verrà detto -, e ora vi arroccate pateticamente sul matrimonio a due ponendo ostacoli all’amore? Dopo il limite di velocità, il limite di bontà? E voglio vederli, a quel punto, i cattolici e i cardinali che oggi tacciono, alzarsi improvvisamente in piedi. Voglio vedere con quale credibilità i cattolici e i cardinali che oggi puntano anzitutto il dito contro l’impoverimento delle famiglie – problema di certo grave, ma non emergenziale come quello antropologico – trovare il coraggio, domani, di parlare ancora del matrimonio fra uomo e donna. Ci sarà da ridere, anzi da piangere. Da questo punto di vista c’è dunque da essere profondamente riconoscenti a chi profetizza il “matrimonio plurale” perché, senza paludarsi dietro dichiarazioni dalle quali si può evincere tutto e il contrario di tutto, indica con chiarezza quale sia – più ancora dei diritti, in larghissima parte già presenti nel nostro ordinamento, e più ancora dell’orrore dell’utero in affitto – la posta in gioco, oggi, sulle unioni civili. E non ci si venga a dire che si esagera: un secolo fa, a denunciare la selezione embrionale e la creazione in laboratorio del figlio perfetto, si passava per scrittori di fantascienza; poi abbiamo visto com’è andata a finire. E ricordate cosa disse Fanfani (1908–1999) il 26 aprile 1974? «Volete il divorzio? Allora dovete sapere che, dopo, verrà l’aborto. E dopo ancora, il matrimonio tra omosessuali». Non pochi gli diedero dell’esagerato e del provocatore: poi si è visto, pure lì, com’è andata a finire e chi aveva ragione. Si può quindi, per venire all’oggi, affermare: siete d’accordo col fatto che il matrimonio «tra due persone è una convenzione e non è nemmeno universale»? Siete convinti che le unioni civili siano una conquista che in nessun caso minaccerà il futuro della famiglia? Bene. Ma prendetevi le vostre responsabilità. Tutte. E quando, dopo domani, si inizierà a discutere del “matrimonio plurale” perché qualche Stato ci avrà preceduto nell’introdurlo o «ce lo chiede l’Europa» o perché «dobbiamo colmare il vuoto legislativo», non date ragione a chi vi aveva avvertiti perché non servirà proprio a nulla. One month after gunmen opened fire inside Deeper Life Bible Church in Eika-Adagu, a suburb 12 kilometers from the town of Okene in central Nigeria’s Kogi state, members of the church have yet to resume worship services and other activities.

“All of us are traumatized by this attack. [There is] no family in this church that is not affected by this incident,” Stephen Imagejor, an assistant pastor, told Open Doors News. Imagejor’s wife, Ruth, was killed. Their two daughters, Amen, 12, and Juliet, 9, were hit by bullets and hospitalized. In all, 19 died.

Aug. 6, 2012

It was a Monday. Bible-study day.

Deeper Life members and their families gathered at the church in the evening. Pastor Williams Kumuyi, general superintendent of the Church, was delivering a message via satellite broadcast. It was 7:30 p.m.

Outside the building, a Toyota van rolled up. A group of men — some news reports said as many as 10 — got out. Some carried assault rifles.

“Suddenly the lights in the church went off,” said Faith Isaac Yusuf, who was inside. “A member went out to find out what the problem was and just as we waited for the lights to be fixed, we heard a voice shouting at us to hands up. And then they began shooting us.”

The gunfire lasted 20 minutes.

“I ran out of the church. Honestly I cannot say how I got out, but I know I escaped from the church as the guns burst out with fire and bullets,” Yusuf told Open Doors News in her house at Eika-Adagu.

Her son, Matthew Isaac Yusuf, a high school student, was killed. Another son, Michael Isaac Yusuf, was injured.

When the shooting began, Imagejor hit the floor. “I crawled out as the gunmen began shooting. I crawled along the wall in the dark until I broke through a zinc sheet used to block a door in the children’s section and out of the church. That was how I escaped.”

Outside, he looked across the road. His eyes found Jesse, his 8-year-old son.

“His was a miraculous escape as I saw him across the road without knowing how he got out of the place,” Imagejor said.

Too many others did not get out: Martha Joseph. Aderuwa Joseph. Lydia Michael. Mary David. Emmanuel Ambe, a senior pastor of the Church, who was visiting for a brief meeting.

“I was hit on the leg, while my wife, Grace, was shot death,” said Samuel Ayodele Yusuf, one of the pastors at Deeper Life.

Church member Stephen Isaiah Yusuf survived the attack. His mother, Mary Isaiah Yusuf, did not. Still in shock a month later, he could not recall details.

Seventeen members of the church were killed on the spot. Two died in the hospital.

About thirteen members remain in two hospitals: General Hospital, Okene; and Lokoja Federal Medical Centre.

‘We cannot run away’

Immediately, suspicion fell upon Boko Haram, the militant group that has waged violence across Nigeria in an attempt to topple the government in favor of an Islamic state. Boko Haram has attacked Christian churches elsewhere, mainly in the northern portions of Nigeria. The assault on Deeper Life Church was farther south than typical.

Police have made a handful of arrests, but have not revealed whether any of the suspects have ties to Boko Haram. The police commissioner for Kogi state, Mohammadu Katsina, flatly ruled out any religious motive:

“There is no Boko Haram in Okene,” Kastina told the Nigerian newspaper This Day. Instead, he said the deadly events of Aug. 6 were “a pure case of armed robbery and political attack.”

The surviving members of Deeper Life aren’t buying it.

“No member of our church has been involved in politics and there is, therefore, no justifiable reason for anyone to attack us,” said Samuel Ayodele Yusuf. “So the claim that it is not Boko Haram is not acceptable to us.”

Most Rev Emmanuel Egbunu The attack in Okene was too similar to others to dismiss suspicion of Boko Haram out of hand, said the Most Rev. Emmanuel Egbunu, The Anglican Archbishop of Lokoja Province of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, and the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter.

“This is not the first time that a Church is being attacked in this state, as there have been attempts in the past to bomb churches here,” Egbunu told Open Doors News. “We are not surprised about this attack because attack on churches has been the trademark of this Islamic sect, Boko Haram.”

“There are claims by security agencies that the attack may be politically induced,” he said, “but the question we have been asking is why should the Church become the target of an attack when the Church is not involved in politics? We believe that this attack is premeditated.”

One reason why, church members said, is the fact that several of the Deeper Life members who were killed had previously converted from Islam to Christianity.
“My wife, Ruth, 46, became a Christian in 1988,” said Imagejor, the assistant pastor.

“She was a Muslim before she converted to the Christian faith. And through her life in Christ, her mother and two of her Muslim sisters also converted to Christianity.”

Mary Isaiah Yusuf was a former Muslim, too, said her husband, Isaiah. “She became a Christian when she heard the gospel preached to her. She also shared the gospel with her relations who in turn, gave their lives to Christ.”

He said the two married in 1982 in the city of Kaduna when Mary became a Christian. The couple had six children, and Mary was involved in the church’s team of prayer warriors. She was responsible for the daily cleaning of the church sanctuary.

“We were living in Kaduna in northern part of the country, but the religious crisis caused by the forceful implementation of the Islamic law, Sharia, forced us to relocate to Kogi state in 2001,” Isaiah said. “We thought we were fleeing persecution up north, but now this attack has shown us that we cannot run away from it.”

The challenge of the Scripture

The attacks on churches are taking a toll on Christian life. Churches are changing from houses of welcome to houses of suspicion, Archbishop Egbunu said. Money that should go to evangelism instead is being channeled into security measures. As the sectarian violence creeps southward into Nigeria’s predominantly Christian regions, he said, worries grow about the country’s ability to police itself.

Egbunu said it’s creating a situation where Christian leaders will not be able to contain the anger building in the hearts of some Christians.

“As Church leaders we preach and tell Christians not to avenge these attacks,” he said. “But it is possible that we may not be able to restrain them for a long time. Things are getting out of hand. We as leaders may restrain ourselves, but Christian youths may not be able to bear things for long. But our message has been that we should not be overcome with evil, but should strive to overcome evil with good, as we are taught in Romans 12:1.”

C’è da essere francamente riconoscenti alla bioeticista Chiara Lalli la quale, presentando un recente libro del professor Ronald Den Otter, docente di scienze politiche alla California Polytechnic State University, effettua una considerazione che dovrebbe aprire gli occhi a tutti coloro che si ostinano a ridicolizzare quanti denunciano l’attacco mortale di cui è oggetto la famiglia: «Il matrimonio (civile) è un contratto, determinato dal contesto politico e sociale, mutato e mutabile nel tempo. Non è una verità rivelata. Che ci si possa sposare tra due persone è una convenzione e non è nemmeno universale». «Deve essere – si chiede quindi la studiosa – una condizione immutabile?» (Internazionale.it, 11 gennaio). La plausibilità costituzionale del matrimonio multiplo è tesi del professor Den Otter, ma Lalli la riprende e risulta francamente non riconoscere a simili posizioni quanto meno una loro coerenza.
Infatti, anche se è inelegante citare se stessi, tutto ciò altro non è che l’inveramento di quello che io chiamato relativismo familiare, «un modo di leggere le relazioni sociali che, analogamente al relativismo etico – che pone sullo stesso piano, ritenendole equivalenti, concezioni etiche differenti, talora opposte – attribuisce il titolo di famiglia a un numero crescente e potenzialmente infinito di relazioni che hanno come unico requisito i sentimenti vissuti da coloro che le compongono; non contano più il fine dell’unione, l’identità sessuale o il numero di coloro che la rendono tale: laddove c’è sentimento c’è famiglia» (La famiglia è una sola, 2014, p.10). I fautori delle unioni civili – richiamando le quali l’articolo della Lalli non casualmente inizia – sorrideranno sostenendo l’assurdità di collegare il riconoscimento dei diritti delle coppie composte da persone dello stesso sesso col futuro “matrimonio plurale” di cui parla Den Otter. Peccato invece che non solo questo collegamento sia il coerente esito di una logica – quella del primato del sentimento quale fondamento esclusivo della famiglia -, ma sarebbe difficile per non dire impossibile, una volta messo da parte il criterio della diversità sessuale del matrimonio, ostinarsi a presidiare quello numerico. Avete ceduto sul fatto che solo un uomo ed una donna possono essere coniugi – ci verrà detto -, e ora vi arroccate pateticamente sul matrimonio a due ponendo ostacoli all’amore? Dopo il limite di velocità, il limite di bontà? E voglio vederli, a quel punto, i cattolici e i cardinali che oggi tacciono, alzarsi improvvisamente in piedi. Voglio vedere con quale credibilità i cattolici e i cardinali che oggi puntano anzitutto il dito contro l’impoverimento delle famiglie – problema di certo grave, ma non emergenziale come quello antropologico – trovare il coraggio, domani, di parlare ancora del matrimonio fra uomo e donna. Ci sarà da ridere, anzi da piangere. Da questo punto di vista c’è dunque da essere profondamente riconoscenti a chi profetizza il “matrimonio plurale” perché, senza paludarsi dietro dichiarazioni dalle quali si può evincere tutto e il contrario di tutto, indica con chiarezza quale sia – più ancora dei diritti, in larghissima parte già presenti nel nostro ordinamento, e più ancora dell’orrore dell’utero in affitto – la posta in gioco, oggi, sulle unioni civili. E non ci si venga a dire che si esagera: un secolo fa, a denunciare la selezione embrionale e la creazione in laboratorio del figlio perfetto, si passava per scrittori di fantascienza; poi abbiamo visto com’è andata a finire. E ricordate cosa disse Fanfani (1908–1999) il 26 aprile 1974? «Volete il divorzio? Allora dovete sapere che, dopo, verrà l’aborto. E dopo ancora, il matrimonio tra omosessuali». Non pochi gli diedero dell’esagerato e del provocatore: poi si è visto, pure lì, com’è andata a finire e chi aveva ragione. Si può quindi, per venire all’oggi, affermare: siete d’accordo col fatto che il matrimonio «tra due persone è una convenzione e non è nemmeno universale»? Siete convinti che le unioni civili siano una conquista che in nessun caso minaccerà il futuro della famiglia? Bene. Ma prendetevi le vostre responsabilità. Tutte. E quando, dopo domani, si inizierà a discutere del “matrimonio plurale” perché qualche Stato ci avrà preceduto nell’introdurlo o «ce lo chiede l’Europa» o perché «dobbiamo colmare il vuoto legislativo», non date ragione a chi vi aveva avvertiti perché non servirà proprio a nulla.
